Hear from the Building Safety Regulator at CITB Skills & Training Conference
Following on from an engaging CITB Skills & Training Conference in Cardiff, we head to London to meet even more employers, training providers and industry stakeholders.
The one-day event on February 6 will see employers benefiting from one-to-one support on accessing CITB funding and services, including the Employer Network initiative. Training providers, meanwhile, will have the opportunity to hear about the industry’s major opportunities and meet construction companies and industry trade federations.
Amongst the engaging sessions will be an update from the Building Safety Regulator (BSR), including a panel Q&A with the Industry Competence Committee.
Legislation gives the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) a responsibility to encourage and facilitate an improvement in the leadership and competence of all people involved in the lifecycle of a building, from design to construction and occupation. This responsibility sits alongside requirements in building regulations for all individuals to demonstrate their competence.
This session, entitled ‘Improving Building Safety by Ensuring Competence’, will give an overview of these requirements and the industry work BSR is supporting to improve the competence and the culture around building safety.
Joining Sandra Ashcroft from the BSR for a Q&A session, following the overview, will be three members of the Industry Competence Committee (ICC), BSR’s expert advisory committee on competence. They will answer questions from the audience on what action is needed to improve competence and ask for feedback on how the legislative changes on competence have been received so far by industry.
Another important topic covered in London will be The Procurement Act 2023, which comes into effect on 24 February 2025. Michael Winder of Brabners LLP will provide a session on what is changing and how the new Act will affect private sector suppliers to the public sector.
This will cover the effect on land development/works contracts. The session will also discuss the key changes for suppliers to be aware of, including new procurement objectives, exclusions and debarment, new procedures and processes, new feedback and standstill provisions, provisions that increase scrutiny on suppliers and remedies available for a challenge.
In addition, People Puzzles, will host a session entitled ‘Solving People Challenges - Strategies to reduce risk and boost profit’. This will see experts from the UK’s leading HR consultancy joining business leaders for a masterclass in people strategy.
By taking a proactive, strategic approach to people management, construction businesses can not only mitigate risks but also leverage HR as a powerful driver of profitability and operational success. Attendees can find out how with this engaging session.
