Promoting construction careers to school children is a big part of attracting new talent to industry. One way of showing young people construction’s opportunities is by giving existing workers the skills to effectively share their experiences.

Changes to some of the key construction apprenticeship qualifications in Wales come into force on 1st August in time for the autumn college term. They are designed to shape the supervisors and construction business owners of the future by better meeting the needs of employers and students alike.

I’d like to start this blog by thanking everyone who has completed their CITB Levy Return. Let’s be honest, paperwork is not an enticing task. However, it is a vitally important one where the Levy is concerned. So, to all those who have met today’s deadline, I appreciate it, as do my colleagues.

In March and May, 19 young people learning construction at Pembrokeshire College undertook ten-day courses as an Introduction to Traditional Stone Masonry. The courses were financed by Pembroke Town Walls Trust as part of their project to develop a long-term management plan for restoring the town’s medieval walls, and funded by the UK Government through the UK Community Renewal fund, managed by Pembrokeshire County Council.

CITB has awarded The Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce £280,000 to inspire and support young people in Scotland to pursue a career in the construction industry through a programme of Construction Work Tasters

Since joining CITB I’ve conversed with stakeholders across the UK on training, skills and investment. I’m pleased to say CITB’s new Business Plan reflects this collaborative work and the views expressed during Consensus ’21.

A wonderful achievement for CITB’s Apprenticeship team and a huge thank you to our Brickwork and Carpentry and Joinery apprentices who have done themselves proud excelling in the final assessments, earning CITB a City & Guilds “Centre of Excellence” award for EPA achievement.
