The project will provide training focused on heritage construction. Thirty individuals currently following NVQ2 and 3 will benefit from this training. A third of buildings in Wales were built before 1919 and are different in both the materials used and the structure as compared to modern buildings. Existing NVQ courses provide no training on make and model of old buildings. Yet it is likely that learners will be required to work on old buildings during their career. This training will ensure the preservation of heritage.

The project will pilot a Level 5 Accelerated Graduate Programme in Leadership & Management which has been developed and written specifically for the hire and rental sector.

Five modules will be contextualised: motivating people; making the financial case; customer relations; managing recruitment; effective leadership. 

The long term objective is to encourage graduates to choose a career in the hire and rental industry to negate the impact of an aging workforce and to maintain a sustainable industry.

At the end of the project, a suite of resources will have been created contextualising ILM L5 to the hire and construction sectors, and these will have been piloted with graduates from industry.

This project addresses the issues of supply and demand in multi-skilled training by:

• Increasing the quality of provision and capacity to train
• Raising awareness of the potential of multi-skilling to tackle strategic industry priorities
• Deliver quantifiable business and employee benefits.

The project will design a programme to assess and to train over 900 engineers nationwide to support them in developing skills needed to be a property maintenance engineer.

After the project industry efficiency will be increased by reducing travel time and ensuring jobs are completed on a first visit basis. This will increase customer satisfaction.

The resources used to achieve this will be available for industry to use.

The project is based on Hire Association Europe’s objective to invest in new technologies and make training more readily accessible to a wider audience using innovative solutions including 360 degree video, 3D animation, Virtual and Augmented reality and Oculus Rift. 

Project delivery methods will include online, mobile, tablet and virtual reality.  Topics will cover all of the construction industries key areas.

After the project, the 12 modules will be released through HAE tool hire depots so that VR training inductions can be delivered to customers and logged on a learner management system. The 12 modules and their digital assets will also be published through HAE's 'Project pHAEton' which will create a content creation and learning platform as part of CITB's Immersive Learning commission.

The project will provide training to meet the current skills shortage in plant operation by delivering business skills which will allow micro employers to grow and build capacity for the sector. A programme of training which will be delivered to senior managers and business owners. These skills include: entrepreneurship, business planning, ‘whole life cost’ buying, innovative procurement, risk assessment & control, method statements and compliance.

The project will develop training essential to the upskilling of flood industry professionals in the area of Property Level Protection (PLP) The training will support employers working in Flood Protection. The project will pilot newly developed training materials and look to introduce an examination process leading to a certificated qualification.

The project follows successful completion of a Phase 1 CITB funded project, which produced a high quality training resource focusing on working conditions, safety and risk assessment whilst excavating. This is Phase 2, the key objectives of which are to: develop a training film, which will focus on the subject matter of ‘Breaking Ground’, highlighting the dangers of working on the highway, and reviewing the latest H&S legislation. This will serve as a versatile resource that will support blended training.

The project is the third and final stage of a set of three projects which have piloted a series of short videos These videos communicate key information on the topic of safety at work.

The aim of these videos is to influence behaviour and reduce accidents on site to develop a learning resource which is flexible, can be delivered on site with minimal resource, and can be embedded into existing training practices through the Utilities Contractors Training Group membership.

This project was commissioned to provide empirical evidence of the scale of the skills gap and skills shortage in the profession of the Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW).

The availability of ECoW has not historically been measured nor their competence assessed. As a result, there is concern that skills gaps and potential skills shortages in this area could exist.
