Service Tech training for small tools plant

Project summary:

The project will increase access to the right training for fitters/plant mechanics in the tool hire industry.

The current level 3 NVQ plant maintenance qualification, whilst relevant to our sector, concentrates on larger equipment the Service Tech training will focus specifically on small hand held tools and equipment hire. In turn this will reduce skills shortages and reduce skills gaps.

At the end of the project, the training content will be available through National Occupational Standards for 'Small plant and tool maintenance' specialist up-skilling programme.

Sewer lining operative training programme

Project summary:

The project will design, develop and pilot a training and upskilling programme. This programme will train new entrants under an apprentice framework, and upskill existing staff.

The project will expand on previous work completed and will produce a series of Timber Frame Competency Award Scheme booklets

The Silver level will initially be completed(bronze and gold to follow).  

At present there is no way of auditing people's involvement. Therefore this project will deliver a self-certification process online.

After the project these documents will be made available on the STA web site for industry to download and use, helping to standardise skills within the structural timber sector.

Project summary:

The project will address the roofing industry training needs by bringing together the main roofing industry stakeholders, the 12 regional roof training groups and 11 major roofing trade associations to develop and roll out a basic competency programme.

The Basic Competency Programme represents manufacturers training derived from the minimum technical competencies and mapped to a Vocational Qualification and National Occupational Standards.

The project will address the challenge that the NDTG does not have a Demolition Manager Refresher Course in place to address the looming skills gap in our sector due to expiring CSCS cards.

In order to fill this gap, the demolition industry needs to develop a fit for purpose Demolition Manager Refresher Course. The course will be piloted to ensure that it fits the requirements of demolition managers in today’s construction Industry.

Project summary:

The project will pilot a Level 3 course developed through a year-long delivery programme. It will include a joint collaboration between the FMB, the National Trust, and Edwards Hart Consulting.  

The objective is to increase the level of knowledge and understanding on how to apply energy efficient improvements to traditional and older buildings and building methods. These buildings represent more than 25% of the UK's building stock, amongst the mainstream general building sector.

After the project, the SQA L3 Award will be available to industry from the SQA website.

Project summary:

The project will develop a sector infrastructure that will define how we attract, train and retain a skilled and professional workforce sufficient to build over 1 million new homes in the next 5 years.

By engaging up to 100 homebuilders and targeting specific occupations, and with the support and leadership of the homebuilders. The project will create and develop an industry-responsive infrastructure which will communicate the benefits of smart recruitment, training and retaining to up to 3,500 homebuilders and homebuilding supply chain companies across the UK.
