Project summary:

This project will develop and deliver a pathway, transferable across the sector, for career changers to enter the construction industry. As part of the project - 20 women will achieve a L2/3 qualification in the specified trades; A comprehensive Best Practice Guide will be produced; 50 mentors will be trained, including 10 achieving a higher level qualification (train the trainer); A minimum of 10 different companies will received 'Unconscious Bias' training, with feedback as to how this has changed their perceptions; A minimum of 10 different companies will receive  'Agile' training, with feedback as to how this has changed their perceptions.

Project summary:

The project will develop and deliver a programme aimed at promoting careers in the construction sector and address the employment challenge facing the construction sector in the South West.

The target new entrants are career changers and groups that are under-represented in our sector. The programme will focus on delivering training outcomes in Chartered Management Institute Diploma level 2, 3 or 4 depending on professional background and experience.

As well as SSMTS, CSCS, multi-trade construction awards, project management, English, maths and ICT as required.

Project summary:

The project will undertake research by carrying out pilot studies and business mapping, to evaluate the people and business readiness for BIM, resulting in a business case for further investment in people, process innovation, collaborative working, cultural change, training, systems and new design software technology.

At the end of the project a report will contribute to industry's understanding of how to implement BIM by means of building a strong business case for adoption. The benefits of BIM, particularly in housing, will be recorded in a PowerPoint presentation available on request from Stewart Milne.

Small employers often lack the skills to deliver corporate social responsibility, and so can miss the benefits to themselves and the community, including winning new contracts.

The project will develop and deliver an online diagnostic tool that identifies an organisation’s maturity in terms of corporate social responsibility.

This will help to develop participating employers’ skills and capacity in this area.

The project will address the roofing industry training needs by bringing together the main roofing industry stakeholders, the 12 regional roof training groups and 11 major roofing trade associations to develop and roll out a basic competency programme.

The Basic Competency Programme represents manufacturers training derived from the minimum technical competencies and mapped to a Vocational Qualification and National Occupational Standards.

Digital Construction BIM: The Next Generation

Project summary:

This programme will work with SME Tier 1 contractors to identify ten construction projects which will be delivered incorporating BIM technologies and processes across the supply chain.

It will develop and deliver a baseline maturity assessment for collaborative working and BIM, identify the skills and training required to deliver a live BIM project; creating the technical and cultural environment to develop, implement and manage a common data environment on the projects, incorporate BIM and Lean principles to ensure effective and efficient project delivery.

After the project, a skills diagnostic will be available for construction employers to discover the BIM maturity of their organisation. The tool will go on to signpost to training, based on Government BIM standards, to address gaps. A leadership programme will be available to undertake BIM transformation in construction businesses. Additional support will be available in best practice documentation. These materials will have been tested through the supply chains of 10 Tier 1 contractors.

The project will develop a sector infrastructure that will define how we attract, train and retain a skilled and professional workforce sufficient to build over 1 million new homes in the next 5 years.

By engaging up to 100 homebuilders and targeting specific occupations, and with the support and leadership of the homebuilders. The project will create and develop an industry-responsive infrastructure which will communicate the benefits of smart recruitment, training and retaining to up to 3,500 homebuilders and homebuilding supply chain companies across the UK.
