Funding will be used to set up a new assessment centre where assessors for  plant will be trained. 

A key outcome of the project will be to strengthen the assessment infrastructure across GB in relation to plant.

The project will pilot and test a programme of training which will instil the latest technical and practical skills in the ground working sector, an area which is increasingly focussing on environmental and technical concerns. It will develop and deliver a L2 / L3 pilot Master Ground Working training programme that incorporates and expands on core components of Level 2 Programme in Civils Framework & L3 Machinery Maintenance with essential additional courses and qualifications needed for an up to date Ground worker role.

The project will develop, support and create a competent managerial workforce within the shop-fitting and interior contracting sector and to promote the lifelong learning ethos within each company.

Through developing the workforce, we will also demonstrate that roles within the industry are more than mere jobs; a career in construction is just that, a real career with development options and an exciting opportunity to join and grow in a world class industry.

The project will train in-house NVQ Assessors to assess employees within their own organisation in five key trades. Fineline Carpentry will pilot this approach and seek to encourage other employers to join and repeat this approach. It will initially address these issues for the consortium members. The intention is to develop the model and extend its usage to Plymouth, Devon and South West.

The project will deliver 50 VQ level 2 and 3 qualifications to operatives and supervisors in the specialist sector in Scotland.

The project will also provide 50 appropriate HSE tests and CSCS cards, thus offering recognition of their skills and experience.

The project will target hard to reach CITB registered employers who have not previously engaged in training or assessment.

The project will deliver a range of training and development interventions. The aim of this project is to deliver skills to construction firms working on Sherford Town which is being built outside Plymouth. This new town build is putting pressure on traditional house-building occupations in the area.

It requires specific skills due to the specialist building techniques being used on the site. These specialist skills include: English Bond Bricklaying, Traditional roofing Styles, Sash Windows, Dry Lining and Sealant operatives.

After the project, the local workforce will have been skilled to deliver the unique construction methods required to deliver a keystone regional project. Ex-military will have been given a pathway into construction and the opportunity to secure work.
