Project summary:

CS4L will provide a minimum of 1,500 engagement opportunities and a Pre-Employment course lasting up to 6 weeks for 150 people to enable them to become Construction Industry ready.

Furthermore, CS4L aims to ensure that a minimum of 46 outstanding ‘trainees’ from the courses secure immediate offers of employment.  

The consortium aims to ensure that a minimum of 25% of the trainees are female.

The programme will offer access to construction courses (a Level 1 Introduction to Construction and a CSCS card), functional skills support and most importantly provide a 2-week industry placement. 

This will be supported by an in-house Business Mentor, so they gain a comprehensive understanding of their chosen trades/ occupation.

Development and delivery of a pathway into construction industry framework for Service Leavers and full-time learners (Pathways into Construction)

Project summary:

This project will seek to design and develop a program of activities that would enable a suitable transition into the construction industry for the target group (Service leavers and Full-time Learners).

The program will involve training, placement, mentoring and support for the target groups to successful transition into employment into the construction industry.  One of the unique features of this project will be the development of online resources that will be freely available to construction industry companies designed to equip companies to attract and retain employees from the target group.

The online resources will also be available to FE and other training organisations to help them deliver suitable soft-skills content to their students. The project will provide a template that will make it easier for construction industry companies to directly employ the target group and support them without the involvement of third parties. As such, one of the key project deliverables will be the development of online resources to be freely available on a dedicated website.

Onsite Assessment Infrastructure for Apprentices in Scotland

Project summary:

This project will address an identified industry need to recruit and train 100 FTE ne, quality assessors to enable the efficient delivery of assessments for apprenticeships in Scotland.

Working in partnership with 23 of Scotland’s construction colleges, government agencies and private training providers, a coordinated approach in recruiting 100 FTE assessors will be managed and implemented by ESP applying a good geographical spread across CITB’s 7 regions.

Project summary:

“Passport to Construction” will be delivered across the six counties of North Wales.

Each programme will run for 6 weeks delivering work readiness and confidence building as well as developing practical construction related skills including sites visits and work placements on various construction sites across North Wales.  

There will be a tailored qualification called “Passport to Construction” which will be an Open College Network qualification. In addition, programmes will provide CSCS revision, mock tests and actual test.

Participants will gain practical “try a trade” work experience alongside work buddies that the project partners have trained from construction companies to provide work experience.

The 6 weeks will culminate in CV writing and job search sessions followed by a final day of mock interviews with industry bosses, a "Meet the Boss" session, an inspirational speaker and a celebration of their success.  

All beneficiaries will leave the programme with a personal development plan and clear next steps tailored to them.

Women Construct Wales (Pathways into Construction - women)

This project will focus on breaking down barriers to women entering the sector.

It will provide 9 renovation projects over 3 years for 72 women to gain and acquire skills in building renovation.

Skill acquisition will focus on

  • plastering and rendering
  • flooring
  • tiling
  • painting and decorating
  • kitchen and bathroom fitting
  • gardening
  • carpentry.

Pathway includes pre-employment training, construction, H&S , First Aid qualifications and CSCS card progression. Project will also supply literacy and numeracy support for those in need of this.

This project will work with 240 women and 30 companies, 50% of which will be SMEs.

The project will support women with pre-employment support and provide employers with support in employing and retaining women within their companies.

This project will allow the 288 Instructors trained through the Building Mental Health MHFA Instructor Training Programme currently funded by CITB to attend CPD Mental Health Awareness training with MHFA England.

It will allow the instructors to deliver the full suite of mental health training within their organisations/subcontractors to maximise their effectiveness.

Digital leaders: taking action on construction’s digital future (Giving leaders the skills to drive digital change)

Project summary:

The project will deliver digital change in construction companies by upskilling leaders by developing three leadership training programmes that adopt an action learning approach.

This method delivers change through achievable cycles of learn / test / do / review that allow leaders to undertake gradual stages of digital adoption, learn through the process but also taking practical steps to digitalise during the training. These programmes will increase adaptive capability and approaches to unlock and exploit digital opportunities within the sector.

Each training programme is proposed to be accredited with ILM at L3 (team level); L5 (departmental level); L7 (organisational level). The project aims to ensure training is eligible for grant funding as an exit strategy. 48 construction companies will each put two leaders through the programme. This will help to unlock digital change at strategic and operational levels of a business.

After the project participating employers will have taken measurable steps to digitalisation. The qualifications will be available for industry to access and benefit from. NFB will follow process to ensure they are eligible for grant funding.

Project summary:

The project will draw learning and best practice from Tideway, one of the UKs leading digitalised infrastructure projects.  Costain, Skanska and the Supply Chain School’s main infrastructure contractors will provide insight and experiences to create a blend of online and face to face digital leadership training modules.

Over three years, the programme will equip managers and leaders with the skills and technology knowledge to embed a digital approach into their business strategies. It will combine training in behavioural skills with a toolbox knowledge of digital products and how they will be implemented. The supply chains of the Tier 1 contractors partnering on the project will be engaged so as to achieve significant industry engagement during the project.

After the project, participating employers will have taken measurable steps to digitalisation. All content will be sustained on the Supply Chain School platform and made freely available to industry, supported by the Supply Chain School members. Partnerships with Microsoft and Google are also being explored.

Project summary:

The project will deliver skills and knowledge to enable business leaders across the supply chain to embed digital ledger technology (DLT / block chain) by demonstrating the business case for doing so, as well as practical digital concepts and methods. It will provide guidance on enhancements to existing processes and behaviours to enable this technology to be adopted.

The project will establish a network of champions and pathfinders across the supply chain to aid communication and engagement supporting the validation of digital ledger technology. It will develop training content that will upskill construction leaders across the supply chain in how to fully unlock this technology.

After the project, participating employers will have taken measurable steps to digitalisation. A white paper will report on the training outcomes and provide best practice guidance on how to embed DLT in the supply chain. The training materials use to achieve this will be made freely available to industry.
