The project brought together a cross-industry partnership to create and direct a unified National Workforce Development programme. It established and promoted industry wide standards for all roofing disciplines through an "Accredited Roofer" programme with the aim to act as a skills baseline for the sector.
This contract will provide the funds to allow 469 individuals who had commenced the training under the previous contract to complete their RoofCERT accreditation.

Following market research and employer consultation to identify key areas for support, this project will allow students to experience all roofing disciplines prior to committing to an apprenticeship, to best understand where their skillset is suited and to ensure the apprenticeship is right for both the student and employer from the outset.

It is estimated that industry needs 690 additional roofers per annum.
The Roofing Masterclass programme follows the success of an existing masterclass programme which delivers short brickwork training sessions which contributes to a reduction to defects in new homebuilding. CITB are expanding this approach to include roofing.

Once a new entrant has secured employment, challenges that cannot be immediately addressed can be managed through the ECO project, using the individual learning plan’s agreed support and actions, with tailored support provided by NFRC (including facilitating referrals to the employees’ barrier-specific support agencies including our free counselling services or free legal, tax and HR support service provided by ARAG) to support both the employee and their employer.
NFRC would brief the employer on buddy requirements (individual identified for this role as soon as possible – ideally during the recruitment of the employee). Once the buddy is identified, NFRC will brief the buddy and ensure that they are fully committed to delivering their responsibilities and are aware of their involvement requirements. The aim of this project is to deliver skills to construction firms working on Sherford Town which is being built outside Plymouth. This new town build is putting pressure on traditional house-building occupations in the area.
It requires specific skills due to the specialist building techniques being used on the site. These specialist skills include: English Bond Bricklaying, Traditional roofing Styles, Sash Windows, Dry Lining and Sealant operatives.
After the project, the local workforce will have been skilled to deliver the unique construction methods required to deliver a keystone regional project. Ex-military will have been given a pathway into construction and the opportunity to secure work.
