The project will develop training essential to the upskilling of flood industry professionals in the area of Property Level Protection (PLP) The training will support employers working in Flood Protection. The project will pilot newly developed training materials and look to introduce an examination process leading to a certificated qualification.

The project follows successful completion of a Phase 1 CITB funded project, which produced a high quality training resource focusing on working conditions, safety and risk assessment whilst excavating. This is Phase 2, the key objectives of which are to: develop a training film, which will focus on the subject matter of ‘Breaking Ground’, highlighting the dangers of working on the highway, and reviewing the latest H&S legislation. This will serve as a versatile resource that will support blended training.

The project is the third and final stage of a set of three projects which have piloted a series of short videos These videos communicate key information on the topic of safety at work.

The aim of these videos is to influence behaviour and reduce accidents on site to develop a learning resource which is flexible, can be delivered on site with minimal resource, and can be embedded into existing training practices through the Utilities Contractors Training Group membership.

This project was commissioned to provide empirical evidence of the scale of the skills gap and skills shortage in the profession of the Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW).

The availability of ECoW has not historically been measured nor their competence assessed. As a result, there is concern that skills gaps and potential skills shortages in this area could exist.

The project responds to a need to conduct research into the Plant sector to better understand the number of plant operators, and the degree of entry to – exit from the labour force.

The project will use this research to gain better data which can be used for planning and implementing recruitment and upskilling programmes in both general and specialist areas.

The Right to Work project is aimed at providing construction businesses, and their entire supply chain with accessible training on how to check the ‘right to work’ status of all their employees thereby preventing illegal working and any modern slavery/trafficking activities.

The method for communicating this information will be via video. This video can be hosted on the CITB website or CITB YouTube channels, allowing access to everyone in the industry, large or small.

The project will train five staff to CAA (pilots for drones) standard. The purpose of the project is to negate the need for staff to work at extreme height whilst carrying out roof work inspections working at height is high risk. Therefore; we look to reduce staff working at height, thereby negate the risk apportioned to them This project will allow us to increase the number of roof inspections carried out by us. Resulting in upskilled staff and increased work outputs.

The project will increase access to the right training for fitters/plant mechanics in the tool hire industry.

The current level 3 NVQ plant maintenance qualification, whilst relevant to our sector, concentrates on larger equipment the Service Tech training will focus specifically on small hand held tools and equipment hire. In turn this will reduce skills shortages and reduce skills gaps.

At the end of the project, the training content will be available through National Occupational Standards for 'Small plant and tool maintenance' specialist up-skilling programme.

The project will design, develop and pilot a training and upskilling programme. This programme will train new entrants under an apprentice framework, and upskill existing staff.

The programme will be based around a new NVQ diploma for “Trenchless Technology Operatives” which is linked to a CSCS skilled worker card.

The project will deliver eight days of training spread over one year aimed at: stone industry new entrants; those with a general construction background who need understanding of working with natural stone; time-served masons/restorers/operatives progressing into management roles.
