The project will pilot digital skills development for small building and construction companies (employing up to 20 people) delivering skills to compete and run businesses in a digital environment.

Knowledge improvements in: online promotion; developing online reputation; generating sales; winning new contracts; economical back-office processes; increase in online transactions; cyber security; increasing brand awareness.

After the project, 50 SMEs will be able to implement use of simple digital technologies in their business, making efficiencies and productivity gains. Training materials will be freely available to industry.

Project summary:

The project will build networks of employers in the Home Building supply chain and promote collaboration between home builders, sub-contractors and the supply chain.

It will identify training needs of those that are less engaged in training, and influence the dis-engaged to increase their level of training and therefore increasing their engagement with CITB.

Having identified training needs, a series of short-duration off-job training interventions will be delivered to meet the supply chain needs.

The project is a pilot to train construction workers on the ‘Assured Performance Process’, a methodology produced by the National Energy Foundation.

Modules will be developed in: Induction for Assured Performance Process sites, delivering performance onsite fabrics trades; delivering performance onsite services trades, site management for assured energy performance.

This will develop into a training programme which can be used to train construction workers on other Assured Performance Process projects.

Project summary:

The project will deliver the CITB's Achieving Behavioural Change (ABC) programme. This essential programme:

  • covers legal duties of employers and employees
  • defines hazards, risks and control measures
  • lists possible causes of accidents
  • helps employees understand the link between attitude and behaviour, the costs of poor safety performance, the benefits of good safety performance and how to put ABC into practice.

After the end of the project, workers in the Manchester airport Group Estate will have achieved the training and will have the skill-sets to improve safety in the working environment.

The project will develop a network of Centres of Excellence across the UK to support training in Joinery, Shop-fitting and Interior Contracting  using new apprenticeship standards as the bedrock Using this network  to ensure all units can be offered and ensuring curriculums are up to date and standardised by providing ‘bolt-on’ modules.

After the project more wood workers will have the skills to operate CNC machinery, and the capacity for further people to upskill will be increased through the network of centres of excellence.
