  • Produce a video case study.

Project summary:

The project will bring together a cross industry partnership to create and direct a unified National Workforce Development programme. It will establish and promote industry wide standards for all roofing disciplines through an "Accredited Roofer" programme that will act as a skills baseline for the sector and that will professionalise the industry.

Developed in partnership with key contractors, who are all SMEs, the Breakfast Club will deliver eight bespoke interactive training and personal development sessions for 48 new industry entrants (4 cohorts of 12) over a 15-month period. 

Running concurrently as a controlled programme alongside the regular intake of new employees, the project will deliver evidence-based comparisons as to the benefit of the bespoke additional interventions for the retention of new entrants.

Commission: Employer led training and employment pathways into construction for ex-offenders. The project will create a Scotland-wide sustainable framework of employer led learning and employment pathways into construction for ex-offenders. The project will enable employers of all sizes to partner with prisons and other services on a longer term basis and help to identify other possible interactions. By the end of the project, participants will have built a coherent framework which takes account of demand, best practice and employer incentives.

Commission: Construction contextualised curriculum to improve the appeal of working in construction. The aim of the project is to develop a pan Wales construction curriculum resource that facilitates and standardises an end to end offer, which is currently only undertaken by construction companies on an ad hoc basis. 

The project will support teachers and careers advisors to contextualise the curriculum by developing curriculum support and guidance and will produce resources to support C&BE Welsh Baccalaureate challenges.

Fast track new entrant trainees from FE construction diploma courses to home building

Fit out Futures is made up of three work streams:

  1. BuildBack - which will develop a routeway for employers to access a talent pool within the sector. 
  2. FE to Employment - this enables full time learners to have work experience within the sector and to improve their employment opportunities. This work stream will build confidence for employers to offer work experience placements. 
  3. The final work stream - 'Sector Engagement' will build awareness of the sector to ensure the sector is appropriately qualified. This employer awareness campaign will enable a greater take up of training.
