How do CITB grant eligible training standards help the construction industry?

CITB wants to help ensure that all the training you or your employees receive is delivered and assessed to a recognised standard. We are consulting with industry experts to provide standards for training standards.

CITB registered employers can apply for Grant related to training standard that are held on the Construction Training Directory/Register, this grant is to support the cost of training. Once an employee has passed a training standard the achievement is added to the Construction Training Register so that employers/employees can track training which reduces the need for retraining.

Where there is an identified industry need, training standards will be developed with industry experts to address gaps in training.

CITB approved Training Providers can advertise their courses on the Construction Training Directory (CTD), this can help employers develop training plans for its people, which leads to a safer, better trained and more efficient workforce.

What is a training standard?

Training Standards help to ensure that the training required by the construction industry is delivered consistently and is assessed to an industry agreed standard.

The content of the standards is put together by industry experts and stakeholders to ensure the content meets the needs of the construction industry.

The development of training standards means that training is standardised and more easily transferred in the UK construction industry and because the training is recorded by CITB it reduces effort and resources spent on repeated training for employees.

How are training standards developed?

The Standards Team supports the development and review of Training standards by carrying out the following:

• initial research
• forming a working group
• preparing draft Training Standards for working group members to review
• arranging and facilitating meetings
• collating feedback
• updating Training Standard documents
• loading signed off Training Standards on to the Construction Training Directory and Construction Training Register
