Standard Overview
The purpose of this standard is to provide the learner with the knowledge and/or skills to support the following:
Scope:
- Regulatory change summary
- Competency
- Code of construction product information (CCPI)
- Test Standards/ Test methodology (BS and EN)
- Extended field of application (EXAP)
- Understanding of Industry standards
- Understanding construction details and specifications
- Practical Build Sessions
- Identify common installation faults
- What is a system designer
- Design liability
Learner pre-requisites
Learners are required to have an experience in site management/site supervision in construction.
Instruction/ supervision
As a minimum, course trainers must be able to demonstrate that, in relation to this standard, they have:
- an award in education and training (or equivalent, as per requirements for approved training organisations)
- at least 2 years industrial experience relevant to the scope of the standard
- a verifiable CV
Delivery Materials
All materials and equipment must be of a suitable quality and quantity for Learner to achieve learning outcomes and must comply with relevant legislation.
Delivery – Learner / Trainer Ratio
The learning environment, class size and learner to trainer ratio must allow training to be delivered in a safe manner and enable learners to achieve the learning outcomes.

The following delivery method may be used in the delivery of this standard:
- Face To Face Learning Environment Only (Such as Classroom/Workshop etc.)
This standard is predominantly theoretical training.
This standard is considered to be set at an advanced level.

Assessment Pass / Fail Criteria
For the successful completion of training, learners must complete an end of course practical assessment or knowledge test that measures all learning outcomes and has a pass or fail criteria.
Where this training is assessed using multiple-choice questions, all learning outcomes must be covered, and learners are required to achieve an overall pass mark of at least 80%.
Assessment Method
Methods of assessment considered appropriate for training delivered against this standard are:
- multiple choice questions
- the trainer must be satisfied that the learner has achieved all learning outcomes.
Quality assurance
Assured
Quality assurance against this standard will require initial approval of the training organisation and their content mapped to the standard.
CITB will also conduct an approval intervention, either desk-based or centre visit, to ensure the training organisation can meet the requirements of the training standard.
Approved training organisations (ATOs) will be required to present information on records of training and assessment upon request to CITB for desk-based analysis. They will also be visited annually by the CITB quality assurance team.

The learner will be able to:
understand and explain the differences between BS and EN standards and the effects they may have on specification of drywall systems and products for fire testing standards
identify and locate relevant standards and guidance on the correct installation of drywall systems, plasterboard finishing from any of the following:
- British Standards Institute (BSI)
- National House Building Council (NHBC)
- Finishes and Interior Sector (FIS)
- Gypsum Product Development Association (GPDA)
- Drywall Manufacturers
identify and discuss relevant sources of installation and quality assurance guidance including but not limited to BS8000 Part 8 “Design and installation of drylining systems”, BS EN 13914-2:2016 “Design, preparation and application of external rendering and internal plastering - Internal plastering”, NHBC Standards, sector specific guidance from the FIS (Finishes and Interiors Sector), GPDA (Gypsum Products Development Association and manufacturers guidance and technical information)
apply and reference the correct installation guidance and quality standards when inspecting the installation of drywall systems including partitions, ceilings, wall-linings and plasterboard finishing
identify and discuss common installation faults in relation to drylining systems and the finishing of plasterboard surfaces, including their effect on the fire, acoustic and thermal performance of the specified manufacturers systems.
Delivery guidance:
- This is all about building systems to the intended use including Fire Ratings
understand and interpret drywall manufacturer specific construction details to ensure correct construction of their details and drywall systems including partitions, ceiling, and wall- lining systems in relation to their fire, acoustic and thermal performance.
inspect and identify drywall systems including partitions, ceilings, and wall-linings to ensure that the specified manufacturers products have been selected and used, to maintain system performance and manufacturer’s warranty.
